In a country surrounded by sea, dealing with the blue horizon means endless opportunities through every waterway, commercial carrier, fishing professional, pleasure boat enthusiast, as well as each individual water sport practitioner. Growing up in a country like this, may be the reason why the "sea familiarity" instinct represents a significant part of Greeks' DNA. So naturally, Mr. Stavros Lalizas former sailing champion, 30 years ago, started a small family business in Greece. Through the years, the small family business became renowned, turned into a multinational company and ultimately associated its brand name with "safety at sea"...
Founder, CEO LALIZAS S.A.
It all started in the spring of 1982, when the young National Sailing Champion in Greece, Mr. Stavros Lalizas noticed, that the lifejacket he was wearing during his training and races, was inadequate to achieve optimum performance. Therefore, he decided to make certain changes in the original design, which would meet the necessary preresiquites and reach the desired performance standards. This endeavor was carried out with the contribution of his mother, who was a seamstress and helped him fabricate the very first custom made lifejacket, which received all the approvals since it complied with all the regulations. During the next days all of his co-athletes were impressed and expressed their desire to make the same lifejacket for them and that was just the start of the 30 successful years that were to follow.
At a very short period of time, Mr. Stavros Lalizas had an unexpected demand for his lifejacket, from other sailing teams. This very demand prompted him to initiate a small home business, whose reputation reached the entire region of Greece. LALIZAS' "journey", since 1982 until nowadays, has been full of challenges, milestones and successes that made the company become one of the leading firms in the global marine market. In the beginning, the company was able to produce just a single racing lifejacket, then, moved on to windsurfing and boat accessories and nowadays has a product range of more than 5.000 high quality products.
The company possesses two ISO certifications; the BM TRADA ISO 9001:2000 and 9001:2008 for Manufacturing and Trading Rescue Equipment & Maritime Accessories, as well as, the BM TRADA ISO 9001:2000 for Quality Control System. In addition to that, all of the company's products are designed and manufactured under the strictest control and highest quality criteria, so as to meet the standards set by international bodies, such as Germanischer Lloyd, Bureau Veritas & Lloyd's Register.
Through the years LALIZAS S.A. has learned to overcome obstacles and the most solid proof of that, was the unfortunate incident on the 23rd October 2000. The most difficult situation and indelible moments that the company ever experienced, was the total destruction of its factory, due to a fire caused by unknown reasons, which almost put the company out of business.
Right after that incident, everyone who was working for the company at that time, helped in every possible way, to revive LALIZAS S.A. and make it operational once again. After tremendous efforts, the company was relocated to a completely different location, recovered, started its production in just 90 days and managed to turn that calamity into an opportunity for growth and expansion. As a firm proof of that, LALIZAS S.A. managed to double its turnover for the year 2001 and ever since then, the company has been evolving gradually.
LALIZAS' development has been relied on three fundamental factors:
- Continuous research & improvement of every product
- An international perspective which opened the way to the global markets, to a well established commercial presence in 106 countries and to a retail chain network of 26 stores under the brand name "MARINA Stores" in 7 countries
- Qualified and devoted personnel which has always been considered LALIZAS' greatest asset
"Wind & Sales were made for each other"
